The Enthronement Ceremony of the new Archbishop of Nea Justiniana and All Cyprus Georgios took place with Byzantine splendor, in the Cathedral of Apostle Barnabas in Nicosia, in the presence, among others, of the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, of the Speaker of the Parliament, Annita Dimitriou, of the Archbishop of Athens and of all Greece, Ieronymos, of the state and political leadership of the place.
The new Archbishop descended at 16:00 from the Archdiocese to the Cathedral in procession. The procession was preceded by the chanters, the hexapteryga, the cross and, in order, the clergy, Deacons, Archimandrites, abbots, High Priests, i.e. the Holy Synod, and behind the new Archbishop.
In the church they chanted the nenomized formalities and the new Archbishop is clothed in the middle of the church with the red mantle and he was given a second engolpium, the one he wears on his chest together with the cross. He then signed, after the Act of the Enthronement Synod was read by the Chief Secretary, in red ink, from the historic inkwell of the Archbishop Kyprianos, the National Martyr.
Then he ascended to the first steps of the throne and there he was the first in the order of Metropolitans , the Metropolitan of Kiti Nektarios gave him the imperial scepter, which dates back to 1869, and addressed him.
This was followed by the addresses of the Ecumenical Patriarch, which was read by the Archbishop of Thyateira Nikitas, and the Archbishop of Athens Ieronymos. A letter from the Pope was read by the Nuncio in Cyprus, while afterwards Bishop Christoforos of Karpasia spoke on behalf of the Archdiocese. At the end, Archbishop Georgios' enthronement speech followed.
After the Enthronement Ceremony, the Archbishop received congratulations at the Great Synod, while in the evening he will host a dinner in Nicosia for the official guests and delegates.
