A 30-year-old man was arrested today by the Police, in order to facilitate the investigations regarding an investigated case of child pornography. The investigation of the case started after information received by the Police from Europol, according to which a user of an account on a social networking platform, uploaded a video file on the internet, with content of child sexual abuse.
After the examinations carried out by the Cybercrime Sub-Directorate, the details of the 30-year-old suspect were verified, he was located in Larnaca province, around 1.00 on Thursday noon and was arrested by members of the Cybercrime Prosecution Branch.
The members of the Police found in the possession of the 30-year-old a mobile phone, while in his residence, they located a computer and a portable electronic data storage device – USB.
The findings were retained for judicial review. During the interrogation, the 30-year-old allegedly confessed to the investigators of the Cybercrime Branch that he had committed the crimes under investigation. He was taken into custody for police purposes, with the Cybercrime Sub-Directorate continuing the investigation.
