The average amount of rainfall for January rose to 156% of normal for January, which fell in the free areas from the 1st to the morning of January 31st, according to preliminary data published on Monday by the Meteorological Department.
According to the data, the average total amount of rainfall from the 1st to the morning of January 31, 2022 amounted to 159.4 mm, compared to 102.4 mm, which is the normal rainfall for the month of January.
Specifically, the largest amount of rainfall during the same period occurred in Pano Panagia where 141.8 mm more rainfall fell, compared to the normal for January, reaching a total of an impressive 294.9 mm, a quantity that corresponds to 193% of normal.
Also, a large percentage of rainfall compared to normal, occurred in January in Kornos with 190% (166.4 mm), in Athienou with 183% (102.0 mm) and in Polis Chrysochou with 164% (160.1 mm) .
In addition, the second largest amount of rainfall, apart from Pano Panagia, was recorded in Prodromos with 268.4 mm (139% of normal), in Stavros of Psoka with 243.4 mm (146% of normal) and in Saittas with 222.7 millimeters (153% of normal).
On the contrary, according to the preliminary data of the Meteorological Department, the smallest amount of rainfall during the period 1 to 31 January 2022 occurred in Nicosia (Athalassa area) with 66.6 mm (139% of normal), in Frenaros with 81.4 mm (134% of normal) and in Xylotympou with 92.4 mm (156% of normal).
