There is a recession in the number of visitors to leisure centers in tourist areas, according to the president of the Federation of Leisure Center Owners Associations Neophyto Thrasyvoulou, adding that the percentage of visitors today in Cyprus is around 50%.
In his statements to KYPE, Mr. Thrasyvoulou estimated that due to the flights that exist at Paphos and Larnaca airports but also the good weather conditions that prevail in Cyprus, an effort should be made to keep the leisure centers in operation in order to attract people.
He also pointed out that OSIKA's position from the beginning is that the subsidy for work should start and not for unemployment, however he noticed that the Ministry of Labor decided to suspend work. Mr. Thrasyvoulou expressed the hope that the tourist season will continue, noting that an effort is being made by the Federation of Leisure Center Owners Associations to inform and be ready all entrepreneurs in the industry at least until November 22 for safe passes.
Mr. Thrasyvoulou also referred to the problem faced by the owners of the leisure centers with the issue of labor force, stating that the finding of labor force from some other neighboring EU countries should be considered.
He clarified that at this stage there is no intention of entrepreneurs to close their businesses, adding that this will be seen around the middle by the end of November.
At the moment, said Mr. Thrasyvoulou, the program of the Ministry of Tourism for the weekends is in progress, which is, according to him, very encouraging.
