    Gender Equality Commissioner Jozis Christodoulou is in New York to participate in the 68th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women

    Ms. Christodoulou represents the Republic of Cyprus accompanied by a multi-member National Delegation and members of the National Mechanism for Women's Rights, who will also participate in the Summit, which takes place every year at the headquarters of the United Nations with the participation of over 160 countries.

    It is added that on the sidelines of the Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, Ms. Christodoulou will make contacts with Ministers of Equality and representatives of National Mechanisms for Women's Rights from various countries, while she will also have a meeting with the President of the Group Experts of the Council of Europe on Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO), Maria-Andriani Kostopoulou, and with the heads of the United Nations Organization for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), Alia El-Yassir and Belén Sanz Luque.

    It is added that within the framework of the Synod, the Republic of Cyprus is co-organizing an event with Portugal, Jordan and Panama with speakers representing the Council of Europe and the UN Women organization, while on the occasion of the Synod the Commonwealth is organizing the Annual Consultation of the National Mechanisms for Women's Rights, in which the Commissioner for Gender Equality will participate as President of the National Mechanism for Women's Rights of Cyprus.

    In the context of her stay in the United States, the Commissioner for Gender Equality will travel to Washington, D.C., where she will meet with Deputy Director of the White House Gender Policy Council, Rachel Vogelstein, and will also visit Georgetown University, where a roundtable discussion hosted by Melanne Verveer, Executive Director of Georgetown University's Institute for Women, Peace and Security and former US Ambassador for International Women's Affairs, will talk to students about gender equality, the announcement concludes.
