The President of the Democratic Alarm and candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Mr. Averof Neophytou visited the Multipurpose Center of Nicosia today, accompanied by his wife Maria Selipa Neophytou, members of the Municipal Group of the Democratic Alarm and his associates. There, in the presence of the Mayor Mr. Konstantinos Giorkatzis, he had the opportunity to see up close all the activities of the center, while welcoming Mr. Neophytou Mr. Giorkatzis stressed the following:

“I would like to welcome Mr. and Mrs. Neophytou, my friend Averoff and my friend Maria for their visit today to the powerful center of Nicosia. I would also like to thank you, Mr. President, for the long-term support you have shown to the Multipurpose Center and to the social programs of the Municipality of Nicosia. Let me remind you that in recent years, during two of the worst economic crises that Cyprus has gone through, with the exception of the invasion of 1974, the multi-faceted center and the Municipality of Nicosia, always in cooperation with the relevant Ministries, managed to increase social programs almost fivefold. to renovate a building, to buy three more and to repair them and to multiply the services it offers to the vulnerable groups who are in great need during these difficult times “.

On his part, Mr. Averof Neophytou stressed the following:

“The powerful center of Nicosia, my friend, is a model center. I want to congratulate the Municipality, the Management, the volunteers for this level of services in two generations that also state the culture of a country. The quality of a country for me is evaluated by the respect in old age but also the support of the new generation and these are the guidelines of the multipurpose center. To support those who gave birth to us, raised us, in old age, to have a quality of life but also how we support the little ones to have the supplies to cope and prepare for life by supporting their families.

The model of how the multipurpose center works is for me the guideline. With decentralization we can bring a better result. The state must be a strong regulatory state, able through cooperation programs to support local authorities, voluntary organizations in providing quality services that in the end are at a much lower cost if the state had them under its supervision. >

If this multifunctional center were to function as a state one, first its opening hours would not serve either the young or the old, secondly the cost would be higher. So, that's the pattern we have to follow. And we have sources of funding in addition to state support, local government support, volunteering, we also have European programs and in this case programs from Norway that is affiliated but not a member of the European Union. Congratulations again, I am optimistic about our country, we can, we have the supplies, we have the potential for our society to feel that it has a state that meets its needs with a pragmatism and quality “.
