The arrival of the first cruise ship at the berth of Ayia Napa Marina marks the new era in which the tourism industry of free Famagusta enters, with the implementation of the largest development project ever done in the province.
After two years and painstaking efforts on the part of the management company of the marina and the Municipality of Ayia Napa, the arrival of the first cruise ship in the marina was made possible today, Sunday (29/5), carrying 200 passengers. A joint announcement of the management of the marina and the Municipality of Ayia Napa states that this date is characterized as a “station” for free Famagusta, at a very critical period for tourism in Cyprus. As noted, this important event will provide an opportunity to test all the procedures for hosting, processing government requirements and promoting the new product of the province of Famagusta.
For the best reception of the cruise ship passengers, the management of the marina, in cooperation with the local authorities and the Ministry of Tourism, is preparing a reception ceremony at the main entrance of the marina. The cruise ship will & # 8217; depart from Ayia Napa the same day (today). In the coming months, other cruise ships are expected to arrive at the Ayia Napa marina, while a special passenger tour program is being prepared. Apart from being a cosmopolitan tourist resort, Ayia Napa is now evolving into a cruise destination.
This became possible after the inclusion of the marina and its wider port area in the list of restricted ports, with Customs Ports Decree, in February 2021, which effectively opened for the first time the cruise ship approach route to Ayia Napa. Based on this decree, the Ayia Napa marina and the wider sea area are designated as “Restricted Harbor”, where cruise ships and yachts with their luggage are allowed to board and disembark.
