The withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libya, regular and mercenary, was demanded by the Libyan transitional government, as well as the United Nations, in a joint decision at yesterday's conference on Libya in Berlin.
According to German Foreign Minister Haiko Maas, “Russia and Turkey have agreed to withdraw their forces and mercenaries gradually and in a balanced way. “There is still a lot to be done, as many of the decisions of the previous conference have not been implemented.”
He said that the elections scheduled for December 24 are crucial, as well as the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries.
Maas noted that Turkey had raised several objections and called on its tactical forces – which are involved in training Libyan forces – to be treated differently.
He added that there is an agreement between Turkey and Russia, so that the withdrawal is carried out in a balanced way and step by step, in order not to cause an imbalance.
Regarding the guarantees given by the international community for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Libya, Maas said that no one can give guarantees and added “we will not stop until the last forces and the last mercenary leave Libya. , regardless of the country of origin “.
