Larnaca tries to impose a special Flood celebration, suddenly all the cities and coastal towns flood. An effort is being made to revitalize our mountain villages but in the end they all ended up doing siusiukko and papaluze festivals
The Municipality of Geroskipou and its initiative to highlight the history of the Sacred Gardens of Aphrodite and to transform the new municipality into an area of attraction for Cypriots and foreigners on the occasion of the ancient goddess of beauty, I believe that it opens some new avenues of cultural differentiation, perhaps original for Cyprus.
We never know how kitsch or essentially creative the original idea will end up. What we are sure of is that in Cyprus the cultural events, apart from the fact that most of them are located in the summer, have generally become boring. Which the non-existent Deputy Ministry of Culture makes more boring by subsidizing musical events with every Soula Boula from Greece who visits us to take them and leave.
Limassol started, which, apart from the Wine Festival, has a remarkable carnival, and suddenly all the municipalities are having a bad carnival. Larnaca tries to impose a special Flood celebration, suddenly all the coastal cities and towns flood. An effort is being made to revive our mountain villages, but in the end they all ended up having siusiukku and papalouse festivals. For medium and small communities we understand that it is difficult to differentiate, however cities and towns are worth the effort.
Venus
As a newspaper, we have suggested several times the highlighting of the origin of the Paphia goddess Aphrodite from Paphos, which is not particularly difficult. Paphos has the privilege of claiming the paternity of the most famous woman on the planet, a fact that was realized a few decades ago by the late Minister of Commerce Nikos Rolandis. Dozens of actions should be built around the myth and history of Aphrodite, but also of Adonis, which could differentiate the municipality from other municipalities in terms of popular culture and make it special.
As it was written, at the heart of the whole design is the regeneration of the historical core of the city of the revival of the “Promenade of the Goddess Aphrodite”, which in ancient times, according to Strabo's written texts, started from today's Kato Vrysi, passed through the traditional flour mill above the current educational institutions of Geroskipou, it ascended towards the centuries-old tremithies and ended in the current historical core, behind the municipal building. We believe that the entire district of Paphos could be involved in the whole effort. For example, to involve Kouklia where the Sanctuary of the goddess is located, but also Chrysochou where the baths of Aphrodite are located. The medium-term planning should aim at reviving the Aphrodite procession with the aim of turning it into the central event of the municipality, just as the carnival has turned into for Limassol and the Deluge for Larnaca.
According to the ancient sources, in the sanctuary of Paphos (and probably in all the sanctuaries of the goddess in Cyprus) there was a group of priests headed by a high priest, and a group of priestesses headed by a high priestess. Very important was the role of the high priest (who was usually the king), who celebrated with the high priestess (who was usually the queen) the sacrament of holy marriage, which gave him the right to remain king and high priest. The priests of Paphia Aphrodite always belonged to the family of the Kinyrads, i.e. the descendants of Kinyra.
Paphos
The Municipality of Paphos could certainly participate in a series of side events for Aphrodite, such as e.g. to bring back the idea of holding beauty pageants, not only for women but for couples, thus reviving the myth of Aphrodite and Adonis. Also a themed museum on the goddess of beauty and love could have been a source of annual recurring revenue for the municipality. Finally he could create a global competition to make a perfume inspired by Aphrodite. Of course, Paphos has a tradition of various festivals that bear the name of Aphrodite but do nothing related to Aphrodite.
Nicosia
Where could Nicosia build? We believe that it has its own medieval tradition which could make the city attractive to everyone. If Malta today appears as the island of knights, Nicosia with its amazing walls was the capital of the knights for centuries. We are talking about the Templars, the Johnites, the Benedictines, the Carmelites, the Franciscans and the Dominicans. We have everywhere buildings from the Frankish and Venetian times which, with the right events, could make the capital a tourist attraction and not only that. They could create conditions for the unification of the city, with the participation of the Turkish Cypriots, especially with two very open-minded politicians as mayors today, such as Pruntzos and Harmantzi.
Free Famagusta
We consider that the area of Free Famagusta – as long as Famagusta remains occupied – spearheads the Ayia Napa and Protaras, could focus on events to attract tourism such as large concerts of mainly international artists.
They could also promote major cooking competitions by attracting well-known chefs to cook. Another great swimming event starting from the port of Agia Napa and ending at the marina of Protaras. All cities have a Marathon. Let's do a sea marathon promoting the best beaches in Cyprus and some of the best in the world.
The Dali
In general, the area of the new Municipality of Idalio due to the large dairy production should have at its center a big halloumi event with similar annual events, such as a) a competition to make the best halloumi b) creating the best recipe based on halloumi c) milk based dessert making competition and more.
Advertising
In general, the brand called Cyprus, if we want to proceed with a generalization, is not properly advertised. If you look at the campaigns carried out by Greece, Portugal, Slovenia and now Turkey, you will understand that we can do much more.
