An endless amount of food and drink seems to be taking place in terms of the remuneration of the specialist doctors, according to the report of the Audit Office for the management control of the OAU, as we observe that some doctors are paid exorbitant amounts, with all that implies for the viability of the General Health System.
Typical is the case of a specialist doctor, who had a salary of € 870,742 for 2020, while 11 specialist doctors had incomes over € 500,000 in 2020.
At the same time, according to the Report, two gynecologists together in 2020 received a fee of € 1.4 million for outpatient health care services only.
At the same time, the earnings of a personal doctor for children reached € 421,283, while sixty-seven specialist doctors had earnings in excess of € 300,000, of which 37 were legal entities, one was a doctor of OKYPY and 29 individuals.
Detailed what is recorded in the Report:
Personal Physicians (PI) for 2020
➢ On 31.12.2020 there were 998,391 beneficiaries registered in the GESS in 774 Personal Doctors.
2020 For 2020, the total compensation of PI amounted to € 84,630,601 or an average of € 109,342 per doctor.
An amount of € 1,800,500 relates to compensation for childbirth, € 451,740 compensation for recording the medical history of patients and € 557,889 compensation for vaccination of patients.
➢ The earnings of a personal doctor for children reached € 421,283.
28 28% of PIs had more than 2,000 beneficiaries each registered.
11 11.8% of PIs are over 70 years old, with the largest being 83 years old.
Specialists (EI) for 2020
➢ On 31.12.2020 there were 1,514 Specialist Doctors registered in the GESS.
. The total amount of compensation of specialist doctors for 2020, for outpatient health care services, amounted to € 116,762,682 or an average of € 77,122 per doctor.
Of these, 440 doctors are registered as legal entities.
Sixty-seven (67) Specialist Physicians had earnings in excess of € 300,000, of which 37 were legal entities, one was a doctor of OKYPY and 29 natural persons. Many of them had not filed a tax return for the years 2018 and 2019, while those who had filed a tax return for the years 2017, 2018 and 2019, their declared income was clearly lower than what they received from the OAU.
. Eleven (11) EIs had incomes over € 500,000 in 2020. The highest pay of an EI was € 870,742. A couple of gynecologists together in 2020 received a fee of € 1.4m. for outpatient health care services only.
Actions from OAY
OAY proceeded to the imposition of 36 administrative fines totaling € 51,000 , in addition to the 30 recommendations and the suspension of contracts of four Specialist Doctors , of which one contract has been terminated, one Personal Doctor, two Clinical Laboratories, one Pharmacy and one Other .
The OAU told the Audit Office that it recognizes that there is considerable room for improvement in the audit of providers and that the Agency's recommendations will be taken into account in drawing up the OAU strategy as well as in strengthening the audits.
The position of the Audit Office is that the above data demonstrate the huge amount of revenue that a Specialist can ensure and that, in addition to decisively combating abuses, there is great room for reduction in the global budget of the various specialties, in order to eliminate OA deficits. .
