With the help of wind power, the electricity cuts that had preceded on Friday afternoon stopped, due to a technical failure that occurred in the production system and affected production units in Dekelia and Vasiliko. However, power production is still at limit point, with the Transmission System Operator of Cyprus repeating the call to limit consumption until 22:00.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, the press representative of the DSMC, Hara Kousiappa, said that the synchronization of the AT/S 4 Generation Unit at the Dekelia Power Station has been completed, which was out of order after a technical failure in the Generation System also occurred at 17:29.

This, combined with the increased production from wind energy that exists at this time, led to the cessation of the cuts that had noted earlier, after a second breakdown occurred at 18:03, which affected a generating unit at the Vassilikos Power Station.
“But we are marginal“, he said, repeating the call to the public to limit electricity consumption until 10:00 p.m., in order not to have to make cuts again, as the period between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. is considered peak time, with increased consumption.
Ms Kousiappa noted that it is not yet known when the second fault in the production system, which resulted in the loss of the AT/S 3 Generating Unit at the Vassilikos Power Station, will be resolved and which led to alternating forty-minute power outages throughout Cyprus.
