The Ministry of the Interior is trying to put an end to the arbitrariness and construction of illegal properties, by those who have been exploiting the loopholes of the system for years, which from the first moment approached the issue with complete seriousness, on the one hand increasing controls and on the other taking measures, in order to prevent any form of illegality.

This also happened with the last case, concerning the construction of a house on a river bed in Pano Platres, which was before the competent authorities from the first moment and was dealt with accordingly. In fact, all the necessary actions were taken to stop its construction, until the situation is clarified, while it is being investigated how it received planning permission, but also why the work started before the owner was granted a building permit for the house.
Besides, the Ministry of the Interior has shown many times in the recent past the practice it follows of illegal constructions that are detected, which it manages and then informs about its actions.
One such example is the demolition of a floor of a five-star hotel in Ayia Napa, which had been erected arbitrarily, with the Minister of the Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, taking a proposal to the Cabinet which provided that in order to grant a derogation permit for alterations and additions to the hotel, the restaurant of the unit, which was built on the sea, and the additional floor of 26 apartments should be demolished, since both were erected arbitrarily.
Same actions were taken for the construction of an illegal monastery in Cabo Greco, for which a demolition order was issued. For this particular case, the ball is in the EOA to take the appropriate actions on the matter.

The Ministry of the Interior intervened a few months before, when made findings on 25 illegal agricultural and livestock properties in the Akama region, which had undergone arbitrary modifications.
The specific properties were built in places adjacent to areas of the Network Nature. Judicial measures were taken for five of the properties, while for the remaining twenty, instructions were given to remove the illegalities. In the event that there was no compliance, it would also proceed with judicial measures.
The policy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is to identify cases where intervention is needed and to take appropriate measures, so that to prevent or reverse the illegality and then make announcements.
