Boris Johnson:

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson described the co-operation with US President Joe Biden as a “breath of fresh air”. Mr Johnson spoke late in the afternoon from the Carbis Bay resort in Cornwall after his bilateral meeting with President Biden on the eve of the G7 summit.

The British leader also described the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom and between North America and Europe as “of great strategic importance” for the well-being and security of all, as well as for the common defense of democracy, human rights and the rule of law. .

He noted that this relationship is embodied in the Atlantic Charter of Cooperation that he had signed in 1941 and as he said was renewed during the meeting with President Biden.

He added that the discussion, which lasted an hour and 20 minutes, was “great” and that it covered a “huge” range of topics.

He added that the new US administration wants to do a lot with Britain, in areas such as security, NATO and climate change.

Mr Johnson said the quest to maintain the balance of the Good Friday Peace Agreement in Northern Ireland was a common goal. Asked about the US leader's clear position that Brexit should not threaten peace in Northern Ireland, he said: According to Mr. Johnson, the issue was not raised by Mr. Biden in the bilateral meeting.

The two leaders also agreed to work together to tackle future pandemics, with measures such as enhanced disease surveillance and the expansion of genomic virus analysis.

Health Minister Matt Hancock described the co-operation decision as a “milestone”.
