As part of the annual festival of improvised and experimental music Breach 2024, Andria Nicodemou and Alkis Nicolaides will give a free improvisation concert at “Prozak”.
Vibraphone and electric guitar meet for an exploration of sonic possibilities, experimentation, and artistic innovation. The audience is invited to experience an evening that transcends musical clichés and embraces the limits of creativity.
Breach expands its program with a series of parallel events: short concerts, music workshops, a residency program, and a symposium dedicated to improvisation and experimental music practices. At the concerts, the audience will have the opportunity to answer questions about the festival and its actions, as well as questions about free improvisation.
Andrea Nicodemou is a multifaceted musician and educator, specializing in percussion, free improvisation, and interactive performances. Her music is characterized as “open-ended play”, where movement, theatricality, and sound are equally important. A large part of her work focuses on exploring the limits of interdisciplinary vibraphone performance with experimental approaches and the polymorphism of music (beyond sound).
𝗔Alkis Nicolaides is a guitarist, improviser, composer, and educator from Nicosia. His music focuses on high-intensity improvisational environments with rhythmic considerations and the incorporation of technology. His original work is a mixture of jazz, modern classical, experimental music, metal, and rock. Using technology, he explores the textural possibilities of the guitar and human-computer interaction. His more recent solo guitar pieces explore harmonic environments outside of the equal temperament tuning system by using natural harmonics and non-traditional guitar tunings.
