The Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) announced on Thursday the taking of immediate preventive measures to protect its employees.
As mentioned, in the context of monitoring the working conditions of its staff and with a view to protecting their health and safety, CBC proceeded to carry out sample measurements of the air inside its building, in collaboration with certified external partners.
< p class="text-paragraph">It is noted that from the measurements it was found that some pollutant parameters (volatile organic substances and formaldehyde) were outside the specified limits, as a result the Governor of the CTC, Konstantinos Herodotou, immediately after the information he received and based on the opinions and recommendations of the competent departments and of the Safety and Health Committee of the CBC, to decide on taking immediate measures, which are already in the process of implementation.
Specifically, it is reported that the Bank is proceeding immediately with a risk study specialized experts, which will also include conducting new measurements by accredited laboratories, with the aim of investigating the causes of increased pollutant detection and submitting proposals to address the problem.
It is added that until the completion of the investigation and resolution of the matter, arrangements have been made to channel 100% outside air into the building, installation of air cleaning devices and installation of air sensors for continuous monitoring of air quality.
It is added that the air ducts of the building will be cleaned with a specialized robotic machine, while for preventive reasons, but also to facilitate the work inside the building, the possibility of teleworking was given to the staff members, respecting the operational needs of the CBC.
CBC with the contribution of all relevant departments and the Safety and Health Committee will monitor the implementation of the above preventive measures, will reassess the situation on a continuous basis, and will constantly inform its staff, whose safety is a top priority, while in the meantime it continues to operate normally and uninterruptedly, the announcement concludes.
