The Board of Directors of the Cyprus Cheesemakers' Association had a constructive meeting yesterday with the President of the Republic whom we thank for his intervention in an effort to defuse the crisis. The meeting was held in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and the Director General of the Ministry.

We are pleased to find that the common goal of the Government and the Association of Cheesemakers, which was confirmed during our meeting, is the preservation and further promotion of halloumi. During the meeting, a thorough discussion took place, in which various issues were raised as well as suggestions for solving them.

The President of the Republic informed us that from 1/7/2024 the registration of goat and sheep milk will begin. just as is done with beef, which was a constant request of our Association. He also proposed extending the existing 19% decree until February 21.

It was agreed to continue the dialogue and communication on the issues that have been raised and related to halloumi and it was decided that in the first week of March the meeting will be repeated in the presence of the President of the Republic so that all the issues that were raised during the meeting.

In light of the above developments, the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Cheesemakers Association decided in its session to suspend the measures that were announced on December 22 and related to the closure of the cheese factories and the non-commitment by the framework of an agreement, in an effort to resolve the issues through the ongoing dialogue.

The unchanged goal of the Cyprus Cheesemakers Association remains the protection of halloumi as our national product, the preservation and further strengthening of exports, the utilization of all milk produced in Cyprus and the preservation of all jobs in the cheese industry, for the benefit of our country and the economy.
