The Minister of Energy, Natasha Pileidou confirmed the information that wanted Chevron to proceed within 2023 in new drilling in Aphrodite in block 12 of the Cypriot EEZ the Minister of Energy, Natasa Pileidou.
Ms. Pileidou during the presentation of the activities of her Ministry for 2020-2023 made a special reference to the energy program of Cyprus announcing the information about Aphrodite and the development plan – as Brief had reported in a previous report – i.e. that within the first 6 months of 2023, Chevron will proceed with new drilling at “Aphrodite”.
According to the Minister, the new drilling is expected to demonstrate the exact quantities of “Aphrodite”, while at the same time, as noted < strong>within days the development plan for the field will be submitted by the company.
What is the best case scenario for the development plan –? What we expect
The prevailing scenario isthe transportation of Natural Gas from “Aphrodite” through a pipeline to liquefaction terminals in Egypt and from there by ships to the European Union.
For the above, a technical committee of Cyprus and Egypt has already been set up and they are studying the technical specifications of the pipeline from “Aphrodite” to Egypt, while at the same time they are investigating and other synergies to utilize the pipeline for the transport of additional discoveries located in the Cypriot EEZ.
At the same time, other scenarios for exploiting the deposits are being studied, through synergies between the companies
strong>and it is expected that the companies, after evaluating the data, will make decisions in order to announce collaborations for the exploitation of different deposits.
At the same time, developments are expected regarding the results in “Calypso”which are still under evaluation, while at the same time the geological data of the other 2 drillings made in block 6 will be evaluated. During her presentation, the Minister also referred to other actions taken to promote Cyprus' energy program, such as:
- In the licensing of Unit 5 to ExxonMobil in December 2021,< /li>
- In the seismic surveys in Block 5 in 2022,
- In the Appraisal Drilling “Glaukos-2” in block 10 by ExxonMobil in December 2021 until March 2022 (initial estimate 5 -9 Tcf of Natural Gas)
- In the Drilling “Saturn – 1” in Block 6 by Eni-TotalEnergies from May to August 2022 and the discovery of 2.5 tcf of Natural Gas.
