Asked to comment on today's KOP announcement regarding taking measures against fan violence and what the state's response will be, President Christodoulidis said that the KOP measures announced today are “in the right direction, but not enough”.

“As a state we have an obligation to the safety of the last citizen of this place and tonight we will announce more measures and indeed measures of a legislative nature”, he noted, adding that some of them may not be liked by some and that he is not interested in being liked but beneficial.

“The call for stricter penalties is in the right direction, but tonight we will announce more measures”, he added.

He was asked to comment on reactions that the majority of the fans are punished public in Cyprus, the President of the Republic asked that the measures be heard first and if there are reactions afterwards, the Government will position itself.

“We are not playing with the safety of any citizen of this country”, repeated President Christodoulidis, adding that the day after the game in question he spoke with the mother of the injured child and noted that anyone who is a parent cannot feel satisfied hearing what this child went through.

“I reiterate that additional measures will be announced tonight. If there are any reactions we are here to discuss them. The measures are being prepared at the moment, the preparatory work was done, we expected to hear, we heard, we saw and we will move forward”, he concluded.
