Almost five months after the completion of the acquisition of the Apollonian Private Hospital by the Hellenic Healthcare Group, the president of the hospital, Dr. Christos Pouris, answers questions from “Phileleftheros” about the smooth, as he emphasizes, succession in ownership and management but mainly for the important technological, but also building, upgrades that have been promoted and are being promoted, in order to improve the service of thousands of patients, by utilizing the latest technology and the experienced and fully trained human resources of the hospital. Renovation and expansion of the building is already being promoted, as well as the design for a new luxury hospital next to the existing one. At the same time, Mr. Pouris presents the new great acquisition of Apollonius, the robotic system Da Vinci® Xi, which is, as he explains, the most modern development in robotic surgery and is used in many specialties of surgery, such as Urology, Gynecology , Thoracic Surgery, Cardiac Surgery and General Surgery.
How did the first months of the acquisition of the Apollonian Private Hospital by the Hellenic Healthcare Group and the company “HELLENIC HEALTHCARE HOLDING (CYPRUS) LIMITED” go, Dr. Pouris?
It has been only 4.5 months since the completion of the acquisition of Apolloneio, the first private hospital in Cyprus by HHG, the largest group of health services in Greece. The procedures for the adjustment and harmonization with the way the group operates, proceed very harmoniously and this satisfies us very much.
What changes were made during this period, what are planned and how smooth was the succession in ownership and management?
Succession in ownership and management was very smooth and there were no changes in day-to-day operations and management issues.
Now about the planned changes, there are many and at different levels.
In the first step, the existing building will be renovated and expanded. For the renovation, the study has already been completed and we hope to start soon. For the expansion we are waiting for the urban planning permit and we have orders for its immediate implementation.

The big goal of the Group, of course, is the creation of a new luxury private hospital right next to Apollonio. An architectural office has already undertaken and completed the plans and will soon be submitted for planning permission.
Upgrades are also made to the medical equipment of the hospital. An important investment has already been made, the purchase of the Da Vinci® Xi Robotic System, which is the most modern development in robotic surgery and is utilized in many specialties of surgery, such as Urology, Gynecology, Thoracic Surgery, Cardiac Surgery and General Surgery.
The immediate plans are to add to the existing services of the hospital:
Α. Oncology Department, which will include Diagnosis – & nbsp; Treatment – & nbsp; Hospitalization
B. In vitro fertilization center.
Upgrading services and TAEP
What are the main priorities of the new property regarding the operation of the Apollonian Private Hospital? Will all existing services be maintained? Will some more be added?
Our goal and mission is to maintain quality and efficient health services, & nbsp; so that it is the first choice of citizens to receive the respective services. To achieve this:

n & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; & nbsp; Collaborations are made with distinguished doctors of all specialties with high specialization, ethics and long experience.

Is the operation of the Accident and Emergency Department for the beneficiaries of GESS possible, something that patients seem to demand and need?
Of course, the operation of TAEP within GESS is possible. We have already informed the OAU that we are ready to discuss its accession. Our goal is the service and the integrated provision of high quality health services. Our mission is to provide better health and a better life to our patients.
We would like you to present to us in general the current capacity of the Apollonian Private Hospital, the medical and paramedical staff, other health professionals and its technological potential.
Apolloneio is the first Private Hospital in Cyprus and was founded in 1991. It is staffed by highly trained nursing and administrative staff, a total of 234 people.
It houses 90 doctors and collaborates with another 40, all experienced and recognized in their field.
< p>It constantly invests in innovative technologies and equipment of the latest generation, being a model modern hospital. One of our goals is to become the largest and most well-equipped health facility in the country.
The Da Vinci® Xi and other upgrades
Are there any plans to provide services to patients in your plans?
– Changes are made continuously in all areas, for the continuous upgrade of the hospital. As I mentioned above, the purchase of the Da Vinci® Xi Robotic Systemmarks a new era in surgery, in our hospital. Da Vinci® Xi is the ultimate technological innovation in the field of surgery, as it harmoniously combines the human ability of the surgeon with the technological perfection of a state-of-the-art machine. The surgeries are performed with millimeter accuracy, offering the best possible results for the patient and the daily surgical practice acquires greater accuracy and greater safety.
For the patient, robotic surgery with Da Vinci® Xi means bloodless surgeries, avoidance of large incisions, reduction of hospitalization time, rapid recovery and immediate return to daily activity.
– We proceeded to create a second Hemodynamic Laboratory , which was officially put into operation at the end of February 2022. The laboratory has a state-of-the-art, specialized angiography, digital imaging, PHILIPS AZURIO 2018, but also the human resources, infrastructure and technical support required by modern invasive cardiology. I would like to point out at this point that the Hemodynamic Department is an & nbsp; integral and organic part of the cardiology clinic and a reference point for the Apollonian Private Hospital for the design and provision of integrated high quality medical services. It covers the needs of performing complex diagnostic and invasive operations in the fields of invasive cardiology, electrophysiology and radiology and is staffed by specialized medical and nursing staff on 24-hour readiness, as required by the needs of a modern Cardiology Unit.
– We are also very proud of the Cardiac Innovation Center of Apollonia Private Hospital, which provides a wide range of cardiac surgeries for children and adults, based on the highest standards of treatment. The Center has state-of-the-art medical equipment in German standards of care. It is staffed by experienced & nbsp; medical staff, properly trained in the treatment of patients in need of heart surgery. And it is worth mentioning that this month we “celebrate” the first 180 major heart surgeries after only 10 months of operation, with many medical “premieres” in Cyprus.
Indicatively, I will mention the first surgeries of complex congenital heart diseases, the first pulmonary valve surgeries and the first mitral valve repairs, with minimally invasive surgeries, with excellent results.
We make sure to always be next to our babies, to our little ones patients but also at all ages, always with absolute respect for patients and their families. without additional burden on the patient and the Health system.
Also, the patient's positive experience from his hospitalization often leads to a better outcome of his treatment. For this reason, the Quality Department monitors the satisfaction of our patients through questionnaires with which patients rate specific parameters of medical, nursing and administrative services, as well as the facilities of the Apollonian Private Hospital.
The processing of the questionnaires helps us to understand the expectations of our patients and the degree of our response to them. The patients' point of view is a key motivation for us to improve our services.
Cooperation with OAY within the GESS
Does the Apollonian Private Hospital continue its cooperation with the OAY, in the context of the operation of the GESS? Are you happy with this collaboration so far?
Apollonio has joined GESS since May 1, 2020 and from the first day of its membership it serves a significant number of patients, whom we thank for the trust they show us. Our primary goal was and is not to affect the level of services provided to patients, something we believe we have achieved to a great extent. For example, despite the increase in the workload of our radiology center, we remain perhaps the only or one of the few centers where medical reports are issued on the same day or at the latest within one business day.
At the same time, any operational problems we face with OAY, the good cooperation that we have contributed to their immediate and smooth management, a fact that is reflected in the services and care we offer to our patients. The purpose of Apollonio is to continue to provide its services within the framework of GESS.
In 2023 the completion of the accreditation
At what stage is, Dr. Pouris, the process for the accreditation of the hospital?
The accreditation process is of particular importance to us, as it requires considerable effort. We hope that it will be completed in the year 2023. We already implement Quality Systems based on international standards. In our hospital we have as a constant goal the provision of a high level of health services and in this context, at the end of 2020 we were certified in accordance with the International Standards ISO 9001: 2015, ISO 45001: 2018 and ISO 22001: 2005.
With these bases we started and continue to work dynamically to complete the accreditation process as soon as possible.
We now belong to the largest & nbsp; group & nbsp; of health services in Greece with 7 top clinics. In Greece, six private hospitals (Health, Metropolitan Hospital, Mother, Metropolitan General, Leto and Creta Interclinic) as well as a network of primary health care services (HealthSpot and Alpha Lab)
