Chrysochos closed turbines and is moving at full speed

A very important step for the implementation of its grandiose plans for the construction of the first large private conventional power station in Cyprus, PEC (Power Energy Cyprus) took a fortnight ago, signing an agreement with the German giant Siemens, for the purchase of three generators, the which will compose a modern combined cycle unit with a total capacity of 260 megawatts.

As PEC CEO George Chrysochos told “Phileleftheros”, the two gas turbines that Siemens will supply will be the SGT800 model, while the same company will supply PEC and the steam turbine, which will use the exhaust fumes for gas. very cheap production of about one third of the total power of the unit. The contract with Siemens provides, in addition to the supply of the three generators, the provision of maintenance services of the unit for a period of 20 years and services for the supervision of the installation of the equipment.

According to G. Chrysochos, the total cost of the unit is estimated to approach 200 million euros and the financing of the project has been secured through flexible agreements with the Bank of Cyprus and Eurobank.

PEC had seriously considered the possibility of cooperating with General Electric, the company from which the EAC provided power generators for the two combined cycle units in Vasiliko. However, although it was initially thought that the agreement between the two parties was a given, PEC eventually turned to Siemens and, according to its CEO, it was deemed to be the most appropriate choice for the company. PEC intends to apply to CERA in the near future, to request a modification of the construction permit of the unit, as so far it states that the turbines will be manufactured by General Electric.
