With Europe's first multi-themed resort, City of Dreams Mediterranean, which officially opened its doors in Limassol, on Monday, July 10, a new era is being marked for Cyprus tourism.
With a total investment exceeding €600 million, the iconic City of Dreams Mediterranean is one of the largest development projects ever implemented in Cyprus. The multi-theme resort aims to establish our island as a year-round destination for high-quality tourism and world-class entertainment, as well as a hub for international business and convention tourism.
As highlighted by Mr. Lawrence Ho, “by providing Cyprus with a new “story to tell”, our investment is an investment in the country's future”.
Aspiring to become a reference point for the region, the resort will contribute to the sustainable development of the Cypriot economy, attracting thousands of tourists every year, while creating hundreds of jobs and developing a value chain for the local community, through partnerships with Cypriot suppliers and local businesses.
On Tuesday, July 11, Mr. Lawrence Ho, President and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, hosted, in a special event on the occasion of the opening of City of Dreams Mediterranean, representatives of the mass media, presenting them the vision of the company that led to the undertaking and implementation of the project. Afterwards, Mr. Grant Johnson, General Manager of City of Dreams Mediterranean, spoke about the unique features, services and amenities that the multi-themed resort will offer.
Afterwards, the participants of the event were guided around the resort and had lunch in one of its restaurants.
A new story for Cyprus
Mr. Lawrence Ho, President and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, said: “Today marks the start of the most exciting chapter yet. City of Dreams Mediterranean creates a new story, which Cyprus will be able to tell. It combines the culture, hospitality and beauty of the island, with a new form of entertainment and experiences. It offers ultimate luxury, inspired and enriched with local element and aroma. City of Dreams Mediterranean creates many new possibilities and allows Cyprus to unlock new markets in the region and beyond. The resort is the product of the hard work of thousands of people, through cooperation with the government, the business community, our colleagues and the residents of this island. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make this dream come true”.
For Mr. Lawrence Ho, it all started about 16 years ago, in 2007. As he revealed, he arrived on the island with his wife, for a wedding, and was struck by the warmth and hospitality of the people, as well as its natural beauty Cyprus. So when, in 2015, the Republic of Cyprus decided to hold a tender for the creation of an ICR (integrated casino resort), it could not, he stressed, submit an investment proposal.
As underlined by Mr. Lawrence Ho, “by providing Cyprus with a new 'story to tell', our investment in the City of Dreams Mediterranean is an investment in the country's future. Our investment in local businesses also provides a boost to growth, it's an investment in this community, which has welcomed us warmly.”

The resort, the largest of its kind in Europe, is, like everything we do, a product of collaboration. The combination of our brand, our entertainment expertise, our gaming experience, the quality of our guests' accommodation, together with Cypriot culture and hospitality, is an extremely powerful mix.
