To date, the installation of 368 elevators has been completed in existing apartment buildings in government settlements throughout Cyprus, while the installation is underway in another 17, states the Ministry of the Interior in its announcement regarding what was heard at a session of the Parliamentary Committee on Refugees.
He clarifies that the Program for the Installation of Elevators in Apartment Buildings of Government Settlements concerns the installation of elevators in 368 existing apartment buildings throughout Cyprus.
«To date, the installation of elevators in 115 apartment buildings has been completed at a cost of €12 million, while it is the installation of elevators in another 17 apartment buildings, in government settlements in the districts of Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca, with a total cost of €3.5m., in parallel with maintenance work on the apartment buildings», he notes.
For another 13 apartment buildings, in government settlements in the districts of Limassol and Larnaca, the announcement continues, the process of preparing tender documents and announcing offers is underway, with the prospect of starting construction work within 2023, with a total estimated cost of about €3.0 cm.
The Department of Urban Planning and Housing has completed relevant studies for the installation of elevators in the remaining apartment buildings, based on which it has been established that in 99 apartment buildings it is technically possible to promote the projects and therefore a process is underway to secure the consent of all the co-owners of each of the aforementioned apartment buildings in order to promote the implementation of the projects, reports the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
At this stage, plans and documents are being prepared for the announcement of tenders for the installation of elevators in 30 of these apartment buildings, with a total estimated cost of about €6.0 million, assuming that the consent of all the co-owners of the apartments will be secured.
He also notes that for a number of apartment buildings, the installation of an elevator requires the demolition of illegal additions which have been executed by specific co-owners.
«It should be noted that, in the executed meaning, but also in the planned projects which concern the Building Reconstruction Program in the Government Settlements, elevators are installed in all the new apartment buildings being built,'' he concludes.
