A new disturbance with rain and snow will affect our area today Tuesday with a simultaneous significant strengthening of the winds while a new colder invasion is expected to affect our area gradually from tonight with a peak tomorrow Wednesday. On Thursday, the sunshine will dominate with the temperature remaining at relatively low levels for the season, while gradually from the second half of Friday and especially during the weekend, a new disturbance is expected in our area with rain / snow. From Sunday to Monday a new cold invasion is expected in our area.

Today Tuesday, a barometric low located on the southern coast of Turkey between Cyprus – Rhodes moves rapidly further east between Cyprus – Turkey to the Middle East and our region will be affected by the cold front of the low in the second half of the day.

As a result, the weather has become partly to mostly cloudy and temporarily cloudy while in the morning a few isolated rains were observed mainly in the southern parts of the island.

As you can see in the satellite image below (10:30) but also in the images from the rain radar, increased clouds that precede the cold front give rains and isolated thunderstorms at this time in the sea area west / northwest of the island and gradually move southeast to our area.

Gradually, the weather will become mostly cloudy to overcast with rains initially from the west and north, which will affect the whole island until the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms are likely to occur mainly in the afternoon. The effects from about 1650 meters and above will be in the form of snow with snowfall from about 1700 meters and above. The snowfall will be at times dense with heavy snowfall mainly above 1750 meters and above. The phenomena in the western / southwestern 1/2 of the Troodos mountain range will be prolonged due to orographic rain / snow. In the mountains / semi-mountains there will be fog, which from time to time will be dense mainly in the mountains.

At the same time, strong to gusty southwesterly winds will temporarily affect our area in the coming hours and due to this development, Kitasweather has issued a yellow warning.

The temperature will rise slightly to fluctuate around normal levels for the season, reaching around 14 to 16 degrees Celsius in the interior lowlands of the island, around 15 to 17 degrees Celsius on the coast and around 0 degrees Celsius in Chionistra where frost will continue to be observed.

From tonight to Wednesday, the barometric low will begin to decline as it moves further east, with the result that a gradual improvement of the weather is expected, mainly during the second half of the night, with the effects becoming more local. Initially, however, isolated thunderstorms are not excluded, mainly on the coast. Any phenomena initially observed from about 1400 meters and above will be in the form of snow, with possible light snowfall from about 1450 meters and above.

After midnight, the local phenomena that will be observed from time to time will be mainly due to Sea Effect Rain / Snow and Orographic Snow. Any phenomena observed after midnight from about 800 meters and above will be in the form of snow, with possible light snowfall from about 900 meters and above. At the same time, the winds are expected to turn from north directions.

Tomorrow Wednesday, we will be affected by the wedge of planetary scale, the axis of which will extend to our region. At the same time, we will be affected by extremely cold gas masses and a strong north wind current as the low will have receded further east towards the Middle East. At the same time, our area will continue to be affected locally and at intervals by Sea Effect Rain / Snow and Orographic Snow.

Due to the above, the weather will be partly cloudy and at times mostly cloudy to cloudy with local phenomena. Any phenomena observed from about 300 meters and above will be in the form of snow, with local light snowfall mainly from 400 meters and above. Gradually during the day sleet or snowflakes will be observed in lowland areas of the interior, but also some northern parts of the island while sleet or sleet is likely to be observed in other coastal areas. The snowfall in the mountains and higher semi-mountains and mainly in the northern 1/2 of the Troodos mountain range will be at times dense.

The temperature will drop significantly, to fluctuate around 6-9 degrees Celsius below normal for the season, reaching around 8 to 10 degrees Celsius in the interior lowlands of the island, around 10 to 12 degrees Celsius in beach and around -8 degrees Celsius in Chionistra where there will be heavy frost.

During the evening hours of Wednesday, the weather will be mostly clear in most areas, however, temporarily increased clouds mainly in the northern 1/2 of the island and mainly during the first half of the night are expected to give local snowfall in the mountains / semi-mountains. In the rest of the regions any phenomena observed will be in the form of sleet or snowstorm and more locally in the form of snow.

On Thursday, higher pressures will affect our region while a new wedge of planetary scale from northern Europe will begin to move southeast. In our area, the weather will be sunny while at noon and in the afternoon there will be a few local clouds mainly in the mountains / semi-mountains.

The temperature will rise, to fluctuate around 3-5 degrees Celsius below normal for the season, reaching around 11 to 13 degrees Celsius in the interior lowlands of the island, around 13 to 15 degrees Celsius on the coast and around -1 degree Celsius in Chionistra where frost will be observed.

From Friday night, the wedge of global-scale recession will continue to descend towards the central-eastern Mediterranean, while at the same time cycling is expected between Greece and Turkey.

This development will bring rain and snow again in our area, mainly during the S / K, while from Sunday to Monday a new cold invasion is expected, with a tendency for snowfall again at lower altitudes. The development is being monitored and more details will follow in later bulletins.
