Following the launch of SEA Change 2030, a long-term strategic vision for Cypriot shipping, the Ministry of Shipping is currently working on the implementation of the relevant actions presented in the Strategy and in this direction has launched the new online platform: COME

COME, which stands for Cyprus Open Maritime Exchange, is one of the most recent initiatives of the Cyprus Ministry of Shipping to enable ongoing consultation on current maritime affairs and emerging issues in line with its new strategy. The online communication platform encourages all stakeholders involved in the maritime transport supply chain as well as civil society to share thoughts and ideas with Cyprus. The information collected will be reviewed regularly and incorporated into actions and policies.

The new platform has five areas of focus for feedback, such as green transformation, digitization, safety and security, seafaring and well-being of seafarers, training and education. There is also an additional section that allows the shipping community and civil society to explore other issues that are not covered in these five key areas.

At the launch of the platform, Mr. Vassilios Dimitriadis, Deputy Minister of Shipping of Cyprus, commented: “Cyprus has always been proud to be a cooperative and proactive nation. Under our new strategy, the COME platform is an opportunity for ongoing consultation with people from all over the global shipping industry and the wider supply chain, enabling productive discussion, informed decision-making and real progress.

“I firmly believe that cooperation is at the heart of progress. Cyprus will continue to launch and build on key initiatives to get even closer to the industry – creating an environment for honest discussions and, ultimately, progress for the industry as a whole. We start in 2022 as we intend to continue. with the introduction of a new tool that we believe will help us effectively address the challenges of next year and beyond. “As ambassadors for the industry, we want to listen, understand and then deliver.”

COME is a fundamental element of Cyprus' commitment to an “extroverted” approach and represents the first concrete action from its recently launched strategy. It enables the systematic collection of industry information and the ongoing consultation with individuals, both inside and outside the shipping industry, to achieve collective and informed decision-making.
