Today's European Day for the Protection of Children from Sexual Abuse is a day of vigilance and responsibility for the coordinated state and the state must involve children in policy-making, indicates the Commissioner for the Protection of Children's Rights, Despo Michailidou.
< p>In her message on the occasion of the day, she states that sexual abuse constitutes one of the worst forms of violence against the child and today is a reminder for States to reaffirm their commitment to defending the child's right to protection from sexual violence and to reflect on the extent to which this commitment is translated into practice.
The Commissioner states that the prevention, protection and awareness measures applied must be targeted and include a frequent assessment of the risks that may lead to sexual abuse, exploitation, trafficking, harassment or any unwanted situation that may adversely affect a child's physical, emotional and psychological well-being.
Ms. Michailidou also notes that law enforcement authorities must to establish mechanisms to identify and identify any child who is sexually abused and punishment of the perpetrator, while indicating that the protection of privacy and personal data must be taken seriously in order to respect the personal and family life of children.
