With sacrifice and love for the country, the youngest hero of EOKA, the seven-year-old Dimitrakis Dimitriadis, won forever a prominent place in history of Cyprus, said today the Commissioner of the Presidency Fotis Fotiou.

In his speech at the unveiling of the bust of Dimitrakis Dimitriadis, at the Agios Georgios Kontos Cemetery in Larnaca, Mr. Fotiou said that “today we honor the enthusiasm, pride, heroism, self-sacrifice and patriotism of the thousands of young people of the time who shared principle, and made it their own, the great vision of EOKA for freedom from the colonial yoke of the British and the union of Cyprus with Greece”.

Mr. Fotiou referred to the armed struggle that was carried out he was embraced by the whole of the people, men, women and children, while “the students poured into the streets. With Greek flags in their hands and with bells and slogans, they filled the streets protesting” with the British sending armored soldiers to face “the threat of children”.

He added that exactly “in this climate of national uplifting and fighting spirit, the story of our little hero, Dimitris Dimitriadis, was written, who died on March 14, 1956, when a colonial soldier's volley hit him in the face, on a street in Larnaca that bears his name” while he was holding hands small flags and demonstrated together with other students.
