The president of K.S. referred to the efforts made for the large-scale fire that broke out at noon next to the community of Simos. Simou Andreas Papagapiou characterizing the environmental disaster as huge.
In the meantime, according to the Spokesperson of the Cyprus Fire Service Andreas Kettis, after an evaluation by the Fire Brigade, the Police in cooperation with the Civil Defense will carry out a preventive evacuation of the village of Drynia.
In statements to KYPE, Mr. Papagapiou said that the fire that broke out at 11:50 has affected the areas of Simos communities, southwest of Giolos and outside the houses of Drymos, however it was stopped without causing damage to houses, as he said.
Mr. Papagapiou noted that the work of extinguishing has become very difficult due to the inaccessibility of the area, indicating that the area to the south of Simos is a non-cultivable area.
In addition, he continued, the agricultural tractors of Simos could not work in all the areas where the fire broke out and the road is inaccessible, as a result of which many fire trucks could not approach.
The mayor of Simos said that both he and the residents of the area were guiding the members of the Cyprus Fire Service but the area is inaccessible and full of bushes.
In a relevant question he answered that the area has been burned in the past but about 15 years ago. The area is said to have many trees and is characterized as a dense area while the fire burned beyond the dry vegetation, almond trees and more. He described the environmental disaster as huge.
