Compensation of 2.5 million euros to farmers was approved by the Council of Ministers

The approval of the payment of agricultural compensations amounting to approximately 2.5 million euros to 875 beneficiaries was approved at today's meeting by the Council of Ministers, following a proposal by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment (YGAAP).

According to an announcement transmitted by the Press and Information Office, the Ministry of Agriculture, taking into account the difficulties faced by the rural people in our country, is making a coordinated effort to complete the necessary procedures for the payment of compensation for damages suffered by our farmers. and especially those pending from previous years.

The compensations refer to the damages caused by the adverse weather conditions from 2018 to April 2019, both to crops and fixed capital of agricultural holdings, as well as to those caused by the fires in Pachna, Kissousa and Malia in 2019 and in Achna and Prastio Avdimou in 2020.

Compensation will also be granted to the beneficiaries for the damage caused to various plantations in the wild in 2020, while aid will also be given for the creation of a protective fence on the crops of the affected areas, it is reported.

At the same time, with the aim of the immediate relief of the affected farmers, the YGAAP aims, by April of this year, to proceed with the granting of compensations related to damages to various plantations of the growing season 2019-2020.

It is noted that since the entry into force in 2019 of the Law on Risk Management in Agricultural Production and Related Issues, the provision of compensation to agriculture is in the process of full rationalization, since all payments related to risk management are made through the Agricultural Protection and Insurance Fund. Production, to which both the beneficiary farmers and the State contribute on equal terms, he concludes.
