Complaints about noise pollution from visitors to tourist areas continue, complains the Association of Tourism Enterprises of Cyprus (STEK), noting that effective measures are needed.

The Association states in its statement that the problem of noise pollution ” suffers and damages tourism” and once again formulates intense concerns, “as the noise pollution in the tourist areas in general and on the Limassol beach front in particular, instead of decreasing, is intensifying”.

According to STEK, the complaints of the customers of the hotel units are increasing, while the “half measures”, as he says, are unable to provide a solution.

They add that in addition to the issue of nuisance, there is also the issue of the safety of visitors and neighbors from motorcycles and cars, which move at high speed in specific parts of the road network.

STEK reports that the occasionally of the Police resulted in heaps of complaints about violations of the Road Traffic Code by drivers, a fact that shows the magnitude of the problem. However, he notes that “spastic checks” by the police cannot provide permanent solutions to the problem. STEK also submitted in the past specific recommendations to deal with the problem, which, as it states, were not sufficiently taken into account, such as, for example, the installation of traffic cameras at specific points.

As ways to deal with the phenomenon, STEK suggests the example of foreign countries, such as the installation of noise recording cameras on the road network, which is implemented in Britain.
