Complaints against hunters arise from employees of the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Anthoupolis, as they report that hunters enter the wetland adjacent to the plant illegally, to take prey that ends up in the lake.
The sewage treatment plant in Anthoupolis was built in 2008. The wastewater of the factory ends up in three large lakes while in 2010 a wetland was created in which there are protected species of birds. However, due to the large mass of water, they naturally approach the wetland and birds that are prey.
The area is allowed for hunting activity, however, as shown by the hunting maps published by the Hunting and Fauna Service, the fenced area of the wetland is prohibited.
According to the complaints, while some people are hunting in a permitted area, many birds end up in the wetland after being hunted. Somewhere there, the illegality begins, as the factory workers complain to the hunters that in order to catch the birds that I hunted, they do damage to the fence. According to the complaints, there are many cases where the fence was cut to achieve entry into the wetland, resulting in the destruction of state property.
According to the complaints, there were several times when employees came into a verbal confrontation with hunters. Also, the employees took various actions, raising the issue with the Police and other competent bodies, such as the Hunting Service, the Hunting Federation and the Ecologists' Movement. All their efforts, as reported by politis.com.cy, fall on deaf ears, since until yesterday, Wednesday, 04/11/21, there was again a confrontation with hunters who entered the wetland.
As we are informed, the Police was called yesterday to catch the hunters inside the wetland, however, the employees report that again members of the Police did not show up.
The following video was filmed yesterday, by employees of the factory in Anthoupolis:
