ETEK expresses concern in relation to reports, according to which the Council of Ministers will discuss next Wednesday the publication or not of the Akamas Local Plan, at a time when the Plan is still being examined by the Town Planning Council and has not been sent to the competent Minister, as provided by the relevant legislation.
According to a statement by the President of ETEK, Constantinos Constantis, the delay in the completion of the Urban Planning Council's work on the Akama Local Plan after the opinion of the Environmental Authority is not beneficial and carries risks. It is added that the public statements/positions of the political heads of the two competent Ministries on primarily technocratic issues that are considered by the legally competent technocratic bodies should be avoided.
In addition, it is stated that although the matter is of interest to the common opinion and the reasons why Ministers are often asked to take positions are understandable, ETEK calls on the two Ministers, with whom over the years it has had an excellent and cordial collaboration, to safeguard the process, avoiding actions that might be interpreted as attempts guiding or influencing the decisions of the Town Planning Council or the Environmental Authority.
The only expected statement from the Government would be to encourage the completion of the examination of the Local Plan, based on the opinion of the Environmental Authority and the immediate publication of the Plan, the announcement concludes.
