An extension for another three months is requested by the Pancypriot Union of Consumers and Quality of Life for electricity and fuel subsidies.
Acknowledging the Government's position that the measure in question is temporary and should at some point be ended, the President of the Union, Loukas Aristodemou, said on the Alpha Kalimera show, “we cannot ignore the reality of the market, accuracy and profiteering , which is observed without changing anything”.
We invoke this situation that has not changed, it is to the detriment of consumers and must be taken into account by the Ministry of Finance and the Government. Our appeal is to continue this policy that has existed until now for another quarter.
In relation to fuel and the reduction in prices, Mr. Aristodimos pointed out that there is an international image that daily pushes to reduce production and increase prices. At the same time, he recalled the agreement signed by the Anastasiades government with fuel companies, arguing that it is illegal, as it violates the competition rules of the European Commission. He explained that with the agreement in question, the government allowed the transfer of the amount of investment for the transportation of petroleum facilities, on top of the price of fuel paid by the consumer.
As regards electricity, the President of the All Cyprus Consumers Union, expressed disagreement with some data, such as the fact that the consumer is forced to pay for emissions that he did not produce.
