    “The British market< /strong> is without a doubt the top market of our country's tourism and over time its contribution to the tourism of Cyprus is extremely large and significant”, he continued in his statement after the beyond his contacts.

    After noting the arrival numbers for last year, he emphasized that “already in the first quarter of 2024, 229,000 British have visited our country, a highly satisfactory performance when we consider the state of the British economy, which has essentially been in recession for months, with the adverse consequence of reducing household purchasing power and putting pressure on the business sector. Let's not forget that lending rates rose from 0.1% to 5.25%, with all that entails”.

    Mr. Koumis added that fortunately the British economy has shows signs of recovery, which is also positively reflected in tourism.

    “What satisfies us from the meetings we had is that the goal we set from the beginning of this season to repeat last year's performance is clearly visible that it will achieved. Regarding 2025, most companies are in the planning phase and we even had the opportunity to exchange views, both in relation to tourism in general, and in relation to the specific forms of tourism that we consider to be of particular importance”, concluded the Deputy Minister of Tourism , who returns to Cyprus on Thursday.

    As part of his visit to London, Mr. Koumis also had meetings with representatives of the Cypriot community, as well as with the President of the National Cypriot Federation of the United Kingdom, Christos Karaolis.
