Contracts were signed for two new anti-flood projects in Larnaca

The Larnaca Sewerage Council (SAL) proceeded to sign two Contracts for the construction of two new flood protection projects in the city of Zenon, worth 4.5 million euros plus VAT.

 

In a written announcement by the SAL it is stated that «the Council signed on Monday, October 24 the cooperation contracts with the contracting company S. Hadjichristofi Construction Ltd for two construction anti-flood projects, Contracts C20A and C20B. The projects, which will cover areas that face serious flooding problems, will be co-financed by the Cohesion Fund of the European Union at a rate of 75%.

It is added that "Contract C20A concerns the construction of 3.4 km of rainwater pipes, worth €2,264,000 plus VAT, to serve the watershed west of Agioi Anargyro Avenue in Larnaca. The new network will be connected to an existing network which ends in the existing canal of Spyros Kyprianou Avenue.

Besides, "Contract C20B concerns the construction of 3.1 km of rainwater pipes, worth €1,890,200 plus VAT, to serve the catchment area around Alexandrou Panagoulis Avenue  in Larnaca. The new network will end at the existing rainwater pumping station S8 of the Larnaca Sewerage Board, located on Alexandrou Panagouli Street and discharges into the existing channel of Spyros Kyprianou Avenue.

According to the announcement "to the contractor company S. Hadjichristofi Construction Ltd, the two projects were awarded following public tenders, as well as the audit by the Competent Authority for Public Contracts of the General Accounting Office of the Republic. The two construction projects will begin immediately and will be completed by the end of 2023.

Besides, "within the year, the start of another anti-flood construction project is planned that will serve the watershed upstream and downstream of part of the Avenue. Manifested in Larnaca. At the same time, the preparation of tender documents for the construction study of flood protection works for the wider area of ​​Larnaca will soon be completed.
