Within its competence, the Department of Labor Inspection of the Ministry of Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance promoted the criminal prosecution of Employers and Managers of companies, who violated the provisions of the Legislation, which concerned issues of Safety and Health at Work.
As a result of these prosecutions, the Limassol District Court convicted in 2021 the following persons:
The company “AH-ALKABUSINESSTRADINGLTD”, which operates in the construction sector, in a total fine of € 4,400, for the following violations, of the Occupational Safety and Health (Minimum Specifications for Temporary or Movable Construction) Regulations, of the Safety and Issues Management Occupational Health Regulations, the Occupational Safety and Health Laws and the Employers' Compulsory Liability Insurance Laws that caused the injury of its employee and endangered its employees as well as other persons:
(a) Failure to take the necessary measures for the safe execution of work at height, such as (a) the use of scaffolding or movable work platforms and / or , with the result that her employee fell from a height of about 10 meters and was seriously injured in various parts of his body.
(b) Failure to determine the precautionary and protective measures to be taken on the basis of the written assessment of the existing risks at work and especially for the work at height related to the repair of balconies.
(c) Failure to ensure the elaboration of the safety and health plan, so that it sets out the site safety rules and special measures for works that pose specific risks to the safety and health of persons at work, before their commencement .
(d) Failure to provide supervision during balcony repair work.
(e) Failure to insure with any insurer against its liability for accident or occupational disease to any of its employees.
The company “PRASTITIS MARBLES LTD”, which is active in the field of processing of marbles, granites and ceramics, in a total fine of € 12,000, for the following violations, of the Management of Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, and of Safety and Health at Work Laws that caused serious injury and death to her employees and endangered her employees, as well as other persons:
(a) Failure to take the necessary measures, such as the use of special pedestals (platforms, stands) for storage of marble slabs, which have supports for holding the slabs, so that during the process of transferring ceramic slab from the storage to the processing area, move bunch of ceramic tiles and crush her employee resulting in his serious injury and death.
(b) Failure to determine the precautionary and protective measures to be taken on the basis of the written assessment of the existing hazards at work and especially the work related to the transport (loading / unloading) of ceramic tiles (heavy loads).
A manager with a total fine of € 4,000, for violations of the provisions of the legislation on safety and health at work. A director sentenced to 5 months in prison with a three-year suspension for violating the provisions of occupational safety and health legislation.
