The contacts of the Union of Municipalities with the Ministries of Interior and Finance start in a week in order to coordinate all those involved, so that the transition of the 20 new Municipalities that were created, to the new administration regime that will take effect from May 2024. b>

In the meeting in which the general directors of the two ministries are expected to take part, the process and the actions will be launched in order to make the changes that will allow the implementation of the legislation that was recently voted by the Parliament.

The president of the Union of Municipalities, Andreas Vyras, when asked about “F”, said that with hard work, the new groups will be ready to respond to their new upgraded role.

As provided by law, until the date of establishment of the new municipalities, Joint Management Boards are established and operate. The mayors and/or community leaders of the merged municipalities and/or communities must participate in them. The municipal secretaries of the municipalities and/or the secretaries of the communities (without the right to vote) are present during the sessions of the councils for the provision of administrative assistance and technical support to them.

The Joint Management Councils Affairs is responsible for the following:

-The preparation and approval of the budget of the new municipality.

-The preparation and approval of the organizational chart and the staffing, as well as the preparation of all kinds of issues related to the organization and operation of each new municipality.

-The provision by the municipalities to the citizens of common services, after with the consent of the Central Advisory Committee.

-The treatment of any issue related to the transition of municipalities and/or communities that have merged, into single municipalities. & nbsp;

Chairman of the Joint Management Council is the mayor of the seat of the proposed new municipality, as defined in the relevant articles of the legislation, and the seat of each Joint Management Board is the seat of the newly established municipality.

For the purposes of implementing the above, a Central Advisory Committee is established consisting of the director general of the Ministry of Interior or his representative as president, the director general of the Ministry of Finance or his representative, the president of the Union of Municipalities of Cyprus or his representative and the president of the Union of Communities of Cyprus or his representative.
