The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis, chaired today, at the Presidential Palace, a wide-ranging meeting on the progress of the bills for the reform of the Judiciary and the creation of the Anti-Corruption Authority.
The meeting was attended by the President and one of the members of the plenary of the Supreme Court, the Attorney General and the Assistant Attorney General, the Minister of Justice, the Leaders of the Parliamentary Parties, the President and the members of the Legal Committee, the President of the Bar and the service agents.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President of the Supreme Court submitted a joint statement of the members of the House in which he points out the positions of the Supreme Court that remove many of the reservations expressed by political forces and members of the Legal Committee, while emphasizing the risks of judicial collapse. from any further delay in approving the proposed reform.
A constructive dialogue followed in an atmosphere of composition and consensus, with the intention of the parties to achieve, as soon as possible, the adoption of the reform of the judiciary.
In the context of the dialogue that took place, the President of the Republic, taking seriously the suggestions of Political Leaders for reform in the structures of the provincial courts, asked the Minister of Justice to present a specific proposal for adoption at the forthcoming meeting of the Council of Ministers. During the same session, a suggestion for the purchase of stenography services will be adopted.
The second issue discussed during the meeting is the bill on the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Authority.
Regarding the composition of the Authority, the President of the Republic made it clear that he has no objection to any procedure approved by the Parliament in order to submit a list with three times the number required by the composition during the exercise of the powers of the Council of Ministers. of the Authority, from which the Council of Ministers will select the members.
The President of the Republic expresses his warm thanks to all the participants in today's meeting for their constructive interventions, with which they contribute to the achievement of important reforms that are a common wish of all.
