Council of Ministers: Meets and decides today on PCR tests at Universities

Today, Monday, the Council of Ministers is expected to make the final decision on what exactly will be done with the issue of PCR tests in universities, after the strong voices of protest that have been recorded in recent days. The reactions concern the way to return to the student dormitories, as the issue of presenting a negative molecular test every 72 hours by those students and professors who have not been vaccinated has been raised on the table. In fact, the organized students, both through the Pancyprian Federation of Student Associations (POFEN) and through a group they have set up as “Students in action”, expressed their disagreements about this measure, affecting on the one hand the high cost of PCR and on the other the fact that the rapid test will not be accepted.

It is emphasized, however, that after a meeting that the students had with the Minister of Health Mr. Michalis Hadjipandelas last week (16/08), they conveyed their suggestions-requests, with the Minister responding positively to all. In particular, they requested stations within the university countries for tests and vaccinations, reduced values in molecular tests, and additional information on the vaccination of young people through campaigns. At the same time, the climate for the strategy to be followed in primary and secondary education seems to be positive, with the Ministry of Health and the advisory committee giving a vote of confidence in the policy pursued last year, ie in presenting those children who do not have still vaccinated – negative rapid test every 72 hours, which will be conducted free of charge outside each school.
