Crete remains in the “dance” of Richter, with post-earthquake activity remaining lively.

The aftershocks continue in Heraklion. Specifically, within six minutes, two different seismic tremors were recorded, focusing on Arkalochori. The first occurred at 5:25 in the afternoon and according to the Geodynamic Institute was 3.3 Richter, while the second at 5:31 p.m. with an intensity of 3.6 degrees on the Richter scale.

Both vibrations had a focal area southwest of Arkalochori and a focal depth of five kilometers. The tremors were felt as far as Heraklion.

Primary and secondary schools are closed tomorrow as well

The Municipality of Heraklion announced that the operation of all school units of primary and secondary education is suspended for Monday, October 4, 2021.

According to the announcement, the re-suspension for another day was decided due to the non-completion of the inspections by the special ranks of the engineers and in order to evaluate the inventory sheets of the already inspected buildings. At the same time, an announcement of the Municipal Organization of Preschool Education, Care and Mass Sports of Heraklion (DOPAFMAI) announced that from Monday the municipal kindergartens and nurseries of the Municipality of Heraklion are reopening normally, except for the KB Mother KEPA and I KEPA suitable for buildings.

The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos proceeded with the sending of humanitarian aid to the Municipality of Minoa Pediada, in order to assist the residents whose houses have been partially or completely destroyed. Specifically, after consultation with the Department of Civil Protection of the Region of Crete, the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos, coordinated by the Deputy Mayor of Social Services Thomas Haritakis and the assistance of hotels in the area that responded to his invitation, sent a large number of beds, bedding , pillows and cleaning items in Arkalochori.

According to a relevant announcement of the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos, in the coming days, according to the existing planning, there will be additional humanitarian aid to the earthquake victims after the event of practical interest and other hotels of Agios Nikolaos.
