“Even the Turkish Cypriots who live abroad did not come to their country”, said Sami Ozuslu, the “MP” of the Republican Turkish Party. Sami Ozouslou launched a severe criticism of the so-called government, denouncing a complete failure in the tourism sector.
“Yeni Duzen”, as reported by the GTP, writes that Mr. Ozouslou stressed that “the northern part of Cyprus is not preferred by tourists”, underlining that “even the Turkish Cypriots who live abroad did not come to their country”.
According to the data he cites, only one in five Turkish Cypriots living in the United Kingdom chose to travel to the occupied territories in the first half of 2024. Mr. Ozouslou attributes the situation due to a number of factors, such as TUI's decision to stop visiting there, high prices, crime, inadequate infrastructure, lack of electricity and the negative image projected for the occupied.
