The President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, informed the members of the negotiating team on the Cyprus issue that they will be used in the negotiation process on the Cyprus issue, Government Spokesman Kyriakos Kousios told KYPE, after the meeting that President Anastasiadis had on Thursday night members of the negotiating team.
“The President of the Republic had a meeting with the members of the negotiating team, who informed him about the developments regarding the convening of the informal five-party meeting, the latest developments in the Cyprus issue, the contacts he had,” Mr. Kousios told KYPE. “The negotiating team was fully informed on all issues concerning the Cyprus issue,” he added.
Answering questions about the participants in the meeting, Mr. Kousios said that this is the negotiating team that was in Crans Montana and that the negotiator of the Greek Cypriot side, Andreas Mavrogiannis, also participated in the meeting.
He also noted that “a group of academics, lawyers has been created, which will advise the President, the negotiator and the negotiating team on specific legal issues that are raised.”
Asked if the negotiating team will accompany President Anastasiadis to the informal conference, Mr. Kousios said that the President has not decided whether the members of the negotiating team will need to be present.
“But if there is no negotiation, it may not be necessary,” he said.
Asked if other meetings have been scheduled, the Government Spokesman said that “this will be done according to the needs that arise. “We still do not even have a date for the five-party meeting,” he added.
