    Culture is the means to preserve our heritage, tradition and identity, said the Deputy Minister of Culture Vassiliki Kassianidou in her greeting at the “Poetry Day” event of the Women's Movement of the Union of Displaced Communities of Famagusta in collaboration with the Union of Cyprus Writers. The greeting was read on behalf of the Deputy Minister of Culture by the Officer of the Department of Contemporary Culture Ioanna Iliadis.

    The Deputy Minister of Culture stated that “by organizing such events, it is possible to preserve the memory of our occupied communities and the relationships of their people, and at the same time they promote the poetic creation of our country”.

    The Deputy Ministry of Culture he said, “encourages events like tonight, which honor poets and promote the reading and writing of poetry. Tonight, on the one hand, the cultural heritage and creativity of the poets is displayed, and on the other hand, poetry is supported, which can be a source of inspiration and search for all of us, forming a rich spiritual environment”.

    He noted that World Poetry Day is celebrated every year on March 21, the official first day of spring. ” With all that is happening around us, the celebration of poetry serves as a reminder that, as a medium of expression, it is there by our side in every unpleasant or pleasant moment of our lives, to tame our souls, to seduce us into the melody of words and to lead our souls on journeys in the sea of ​​fantasy and truth” he said.

    He emphasized that “this year marks 50 years of waiting for a solution to the Cyprus problem and a return to our ancestral lands. The Deputy Ministry of Culture recognizes the importance of the work you carry out as the Union of Displaced Communities of Famagusta and in particular for the promotion of culture, which is the means to preserve our heritage, tradition and identity. Cypriot poetry is of high quality, which deals with the big issues of life and literature, and through it the history, character and culture of our country is projected”.

    Ms. Kassianidou congratulated the Women's Movement of the Union of Displaced Communities of Famagusta and the Writers' Union of Cyprus “for this important initiative for collaboration”.
