The Cypriot MEPs raise the issue of the possible imprisonment of the Turkish journalist Ali Kismir in the European Commission.
Specifically, with a written question to the European Commission, which sent together, all the Cypriot MEPs, and concerns the president of the Turkish Cypriot press union, Ali Kismir, who is facing many years in prison, report:
Turkish Cypriot journalist and chairman of the Turkish Cypriot press union, Ali Kismir, who was recently barred from entering Turkey, faces the risk of many years in prison in the occupied territories.
Mr Kismir was informed by the “police” of the pseudo-state about a “trial” that is starting against him due to an article of opinion, which was released during the period of the emergence of the new leader of the Turkish Cypriots in 2020. In this article, Mr. Kismir strongly criticized Ankara, due to the interventions in the internal political events of the T/C and in the “presidential elections”.
These are repeated attempts of silence and intimidation by Ankara and its representatives on the island, against journalists and progressive T/C encroaching on the right to freedom of opinion and expression.
In view of the above, is the Commission aware of the facts?
