Cyprus boosts energy grid with €45 million infrastructure projects

The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) approved €45 million for infrastructure projects to bolster the country’s energy network, EAC President George Petrou announced on Tuesday.

These projects encompass installing new transmission substations, upgrading existing ones, and deploying large transformers, according to Petrou’s statement to Cyprus News Agency (CNA).

The EAC Administrative Board awarded two bids during a four-hour session, each valued at €25 million and €20 million respectively. These awards bring the total value of new Transport Department projects approved by EAC in 2024 to €76 million.

Petrou highlighted that key projects involve a new substation at Limassol port and network reinforcements. “Our primary focus is strengthening networks and constructing new substations to integrate Renewable Energy Sources (RES) into the grid,” he emphasized.

Furthermore, Petrou announced the Board’s decision to develop a new strategy for CERA’s future, with imminent drafting planned.
