Cyprus / Covid-19: One death and 111 new cases from 37,325 disease detection tests

The Ministry of Health announces that today, February 19, 2021:

  • One person has died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 229.
  • 76 COVID-19 patients are being treated, of which 22 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 37,325 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test method.
  • 111 (positivity rate: 0.30%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 33,046 .

The current results are detailed.

 

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

One person who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 is:

  • Woman, 75 years old, with underlying diseases, who ended up at the Limassol General Hospital.

Thus, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 229, of which:

  • 153 men (67%), and
  • 76 women (33%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 79 years.

B. Patients:

 

In total, 76 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 22 are in serious condition or with MAF conditions.

Of the 22 patients who are critical, 12 are intubated, five are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and five to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 37,325 laboratory diagnoses performed today, 1,917 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 35,408 by the antigen rapid test, 111 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 48 cases from 339 samples obtained through the process of tracking close contact (primary contacts) cases.
  • 18 cases from 921 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 1 case from 278 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 202 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories.
  • 42 cases from 35,206 samples that were examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:

  • 299 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 5 samples taken as part of a re-inspection carried out on the 7th day after the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are in a mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.
  • 35 samples taken through the process of tracking secondary case contacts.
  • 29 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 11 samples taken in the context of the control of the Cyprus Basketball Federation and the Cyprus Volleyball Federation.
