The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 13, 2021:
- Six people have died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 163.
- 198 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 59 are in serious condition.
- A total of 13,298 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).
- 227 (positivity rate: 1.71%) new cases of COVID-19 were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 28,124 .
The current results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:
The six people who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 are:
- A 28-year-old woman, with underlying diseases, who lived in the Nea Eleousa Shelter and ended up in the General Hospital of Nicosia.
- A 89-year-old woman with underlying diseases ended up in her home.
- A 91-year-old woman with underlying diseases, who was treated at the Limassol General Hospital.
- A woman, 77 years old, without mentioning underlying diseases in the death certificate, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.
- A woman, 85 years old, with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta.
- A 78-year-old man with underlying diseases, who was treated at the General Hospital of Famagusta.
Thus, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 163, of which:
- 107 men (66%), and
- 56 women (34%).
The average age of those who die from the disease is 79.5 years.
B. Patients:
In total, 198 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 59 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 59 patients who are critical, 30 are intubated, six are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 23 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 ( PCR test and rapid antigen test ) :
Of the 13,298 laboratory diagnoses performed today, 2,468 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 10,830 by the antigen rapid test, 227 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:
- 63 cases from 478 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 30 cases from 1,097 samples taken through private initiative.
- 22 cases from 363 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 1 case of 2 samples taken in the context of the control of the Cyprus Basketball Federation and the Cyprus Volleyball Federation.
- 111 cases from 10,830 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:
- 231 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 47 samples taken as part of a re-inspection carried out on the 7th day after the arrival of persons returning from the United Kingdom and being compulsorily confined to hotels in the Republic.
- 250 samples taken under the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through Public Health Clinics.
