Cyprus / Covid19: 122 cases from 37,674 tests - At 0.32% the positivity rate

The Ministry of Health announces that today, June 22, 2021:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death of COVID-19 have been reported to date, leaving a total of 378 deaths.
  • 47 COVID-19 patients are being treated, of which 19 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 37,674 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test method.
  • 122 (positivity rate: 0.32%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), bringing the total number of cases to 73,832 .

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were reported. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 378, of which:

  • 254 men (67%), and
  • 124 women (33%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 77 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 47 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 19 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 19 patients in serious condition, nine are intubated, two are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and eight to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 37,674 diagnoses made today, 6,289 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 31,385 by antigen rapid test, 122 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted in the following:

  • 15 cases from 213 samples obtained through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 3 cases of 2,445 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 17 cases from 2,600 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 6 cases from 452 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 81 cases from 31,022 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method. 

In addition, the following tests were performed without detecting a case:

  • 579 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 363 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
