The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 29, 2022:

– 4 deaths were reported from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 730.

– 203 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 68 are in serious condition. 74.39% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

– 19 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be treated intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

– A total of 83,766 disease detection tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

– 2,184 (positivity rate: 2.61%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), bringing the total number of cases to 251.125.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

The 4 deaths announced with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 disease, relate to:

– An 83-year-old man who died on January 28 at the Limassol General Hospital.

– A man, aged 70, who ended up on January 28 in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.

– A 92-year-old man who died on January 28 at the Nicosia General Hospital.

– A 92-year-old man, who ended up on January 29 at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 730 , of which:

456 men (62.5%), and

– 274 women (37.5%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 76.2 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 203 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 68 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 68 patients who are in serious condition, 27 are intubated, 5 are hospitalized in an intravenous intensive care unit and 36 in an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 83,766 diagnoses made, 5,970 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 77,796 by the antigen rapid test method, 2,184 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

· 31 cases from 156 samples received through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.

· 59 cases from 3,032 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.

· 308 cases from 2,538 samples taken through private initiative.

· 13 cases from 224 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.

1,052 cases from 43,782 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.

· 721 cases from 34,014 samples that were examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the following tests were performed, without detecting a case:

· 0 cases from 20 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
