Cyprus / Covid19: Four deaths and 2,214 new cases - At 2.59% the positive rate

The Ministry of Health announces that today, February 6, 2022 :

  • 4 deaths were reported from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 745.
  • 224 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 62 are in serious condition. 70.54% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.
  • 19 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in a severe condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
  • A total of 85,567 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test method.
  • 2,214 (positivity rate: 2.59%) new cases of COVID-19 were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 271,605.

The current results are detailed.

 

 

A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

The 4 deaths announced with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 disease, relate to:

– A man, 90 years old, who ended up on February 5 at the Limassol General Hospital.

– An 89-year-old man who died on February 6 at the Limassol General Hospital.

– An 82-year-old man who died on February 6 at the Nicosia General Hospital.

– A woman, 88 years old, who ended up on February 6 at the General Hospital of Famagusta.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 745, of which:

  • 465 men (62.4%), and
  • 280 women (37.6%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 224 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 62 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 62 patients who are in serious condition, 29 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an intravenous intensive care unit and 29 in an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 85,567 diagnoses made, 7,187 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 78,380 by the method of antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), 2,214 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 8 cases from 550 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 56 cases from 3,446 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 120 cases from 2,770 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 13 cases from 143 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 844 cases from 29,822 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 1,168 cases from 48,558 samples that were examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
  • 5 cases from 278 samples received under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
