Cyprus / Covid19: One death and 132 new cases from 36,863 tests - 0.36% positivity rate

The Ministry of Health announces that today, February 6, 2021:

  • One person has died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 211.
  • 112 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 33 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 36,863 disease detection tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test method.
  • 132 (positivity rate: 0.36%) new cases of COVID-19 were detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 31,644 .

The current results are detailed.

  A. Deaths from COVID-19 disease:

One person who died with the ultimate cause of death attributed to COVID-19 is:

  • A 63-year-old man with underlying diseases, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 211, of which:

  • 142 men (67%), and
  • 69 women (33%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 79 years.

B. Patients:

 In total, 112 patients with COVID-19 are treated in OKYPY hospitals, of which 33 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 33 patients who are critical, 17 are intubated, six are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 10 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive cases COVID -19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 36,863 laboratory diagnoses performed today, 2,090 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 34,773 by antigen rapid test, 132 cases of COVID-19 were identified, which resulted as follows:

  • 37 cases from 273 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 1 case of 415 samples taken in the context of passenger control at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 10 cases from 847 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 7 cases from 237 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case from 242 samples taken under the program of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 8 cases from 377 samples tested by the method of antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories.
  • 68 cases from 34,396 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were performed without detecting a case:

  • 76 samples taken as part of a re-inspection carried out on the 7th day after the arrival of persons returning from the United Kingdom and being compulsorily confined to hotels in the Republic.
